No weight gain over the Christmas holiday break

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

I fully intended to stick strictly to my Rosedale diet over Christmas.  But as Christmas came closer, Gary's face grew longer, as he thought of all the food treats he was missing, so we compromised:  I went on my version of Rosedale maintenance for a couple of weeks or so over my holiday break.

Sudden Weight Gains and Fluid Retention

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

Now that I'm weighing myself every day, first thing in the morning and last thing at night, I'm noticing that I'm quite prone to sudden weight gains of up to two kilos (4 1/2 pounds).  Fortunately, I'm using 'body fat' scales.  They should really be called 'hydration scales' because the 'body fat percentage' that the scales show is not just affected by your body fat, but also by your hydration, the amount of fluid in your body (and its also affected by wet feet!).

I've been on lots of diets in my time.

When I was young, most of the popular diets were low carb, they nearly all worked - at least for a while.  I never had all that much weight to lose, so I don't know how they would have worked over longer periods of time

Cutting salt and hidden sodium

I didn't realize quite how long it had been - I'd never intended to make this one more abandoned blog.

Back to the sudden, overnight 2 kilo gain.

Those two kilos gone again - fluid?

Thursday, October 12th, 2006

Well the two kilos that turned up overnight, slowly disappeared over two or three days.  I suspect the sudden weight gain was purely fluid retention from the salty pancetta.

Hmm, could this be one of the reasons why bacon and ham are banned on the Rosedale diet?
