Cheating on the Diet and Still Losing Weight

One of the problems I have with the Rosedale diet book is that there aren’t always explanations of why a food is allowed, restricted or banned.

For example, the diet bans all carbonated (soda pop) drinks, even diet drinks.  Why?

I love Coke Zero & Pepsi Max. They both have virtually no carbs or calories. I don’t know why they’re banned from the diet, so I’ve been continuing to have some every day.

Then there’s coffee.  Its banned for the first three weeks (level one), and then limited to one cup a day on level two.  Only ONE cup of coffee a day?  I have more than that each day with breakfast (black, no sweettener).  Not to mention morning coffee and lunch.

Again, there’s no explanation for the restriction, so I’ve kept right on drinking my coffee.  And that includes the occasional cappucino or vienna (black with whipped cream) when I’m eating out (maybe a couple of times a week).

Gary is cheating by not really being on the diet at all (!) Basically, we eat the same dinner at night - very low carb veges, plus protein -  but he eats as much protein as he wants, while I eat my measly ‘pack of cards’ protein portion.  He did promise to not bring ‘banned’ foods into the house - but that doesn’t stop him eating them when he’s out and about.  Fortunately for his diabetes, he mostly eats low carb.

In spite of our cheating, we’re both losing.  My weight loss is still galloping down - every day I step on the scales & my weight is down a little.  Gary’s weight is inching down, but then he does have much less weight to lose, plus he cheats more!
