Why I Chose the Rosedale Diet

I chose the Rosedale diet because, to date, I have not been a spectacularly successful low carb dieter.

I lost about 15 kilo (33 pounds) on a low carb diet that was ’sort of’ Atkins, but after that, my weight plateaud, permanently, and I became a still-overweight low carb lifestyler.

And in the last 6 or so years, no diet I tried shifted my weight, not even Atkins induction.

I guess I have a few good medical reasons why weight loss is extra difficult for me:

  • underactive thyroid
  • fibromyalgic pain causing difficulty in exercising
  • post-menopausal
  • high levels of insulin

Well, since my last weight loss attempt, I’ve gone on a higher dose of thryoid hormone, and started taking metformin to reduce my insulin levels. Research does suggest that diets are more effective for people with high insulin if they take metformin as well as diet.

And so I decided to try the Rosedale diet for a few reasons:

  • its designed to control leptin, the hunger hormone
  • its designed to control insulin, (and its insulin that deposits fat in fat cells)
  • it controls protein intake (excess dietary protein becomes sugar, and then fat)
  • it limits bad fats & bad carbs
  • it doesn’t limit good fats & good carbs (think vegetables)
  • theres no calorie or carb counting
  • most people who try it seem to report good results
  • I’ve never tried it before!
